WELCOME to the Flowers of Crete website.
| " Many a flower is born
to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert
air" – Thomas Grey |
Crete is an island full of flowers, many of which are endemic
and many of which can now be found in gardens throughout the
world. Most famous of all these flowers are the wild, terrestrial
orchids which can be found throughout the spring months, growing
everywhere in an amazing abundance. Whether you favour daisies,
lilies, anemones or crocus, Crete has plenty to offer. It
is truly a nature-lovers paradise.
The aim of Flowers of Crete is to bring the rich and diverse
flora of the island to a wider audience. For those who already
know and love the island, it is hoped that our work will add
a further dimension to your interests. To those of you who
love flowers, but have never been on the island during the
spring and autumn months, we offer a glimpse of just some
of the spectacular range of flowers to be enjoyed here. High
quality images of the flowers we have found this year can
be seen on the calendar
pages.

a small quantity of P. theophrastii – the
endangered and endemic Cretan Palm. As far as
we know, this is the first time a project of this
importance has been undertaken. Would anyone who
can help with the documentation for this project
at the Greek end please get in touch? |
